Volunteer – Promotion Committee: Community Stage – Class 1 Driver

Position Summary:
The Promotion Committee is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to join our Community Stage subcommittee as a Class 1 Driver. We are a year-round committee showcasing the Calgary Stampede within Calgary and the surrounding communities. We take our stages to several different types of not-for-profit events such as rodeos, military ceremonies, and community events. By doing these types of events we support our communities by supplying a fully equipped stage at no cost to help make their event a success. The successful candidate for the Class 1 Driver role will be responsible for the mobilization/demobilization of the Calgary Stampede’s tractor-trailer stage units to events, as well as the set-up and tear-down of the physical stage and associated equipment. Drivers are responsible for collaborating and working with event coordinators as well as event site personnel to maximize the effect of the stage and ensure the success of the event.
Responsibilities of this role may include:
• Ensure the tractor-trailer units are road-worthy and fully functional before and after events, notify appropriate people if otherwise
• Ensure that appropriate safety equipment is on board prior to any trip
• Ensure that you have appropriate documentation for the tractor/trailer and its contents prior to any trip including a pre-trip inspection and completed logbook/ELD
• Drive the tractor-trailer units to and from event sites as required
• Maintain professional driver standards at all times
• Fuel the tractor and stage mounted generator as required using credit cards provided • Clean the tractor and trailer exteriors as required prior to and after events
• Keep the tractor interior clean and assist to keep the stage interior clean
• Provide minor mechanical maintenance on the tractor and trailer units
• Help to set up and tear down the stage and associated Stampede equipment at event sites
• Run the generator at events and ensure that it continues to run during the event. Perform a full check of the generator before and after each event
• Assist audio technicians where possible to ensure a successful event
• Ensure the safety and security of the tractor-trailer units at all times
• Help ensure the safety of people on and around the stages at all times
Time Commitment:
• Year-round availability with some exceptions
• Ability to participate in at least five events during the Stampede festival as well as other events pre/post Stampede as needed
• Participate in at least 60% of Promotion Committee and Community Stage meetings. • Participate in Community Stage training and spring preparations.
Qualifications:
• Have a valid class-1 operator’s license
• Maintain a Clean drivers abstract
• Operate a Tractor Trailer unit in a safe and courteous manner
• Must be 18 years or older
• Enjoy working in a team environment, friendly, flexible in a dynamic environment, a can-do attitude.
