Volunteer – Promotion Committee: Community Stage – Audio Technician

Position Summary: The Promotion Committee is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to join our Community Stage subcommittee as an Audio Technician. We are a year-round committee showcasing the Calgary Stampede within Calgary and the surrounding communities. We take our stages to several different types of not-for-profit events such as rodeos, military ceremonies, and community events. By doing these types of events we support our communities by supplying a fully equipped stage at no cost to help make their event a success. The successful candidate for the Audio Technician role will be responsible for coordinating their respective event for the Stage Group as well as operating the stage sound system and lighting at the event. The Audio Technician is responsible for collaborating and working with event coordinators and event site personnel to maximize the effect of the stage and ensure the success of the event.
Responsibilities of this role may include:
• Act as the Promotion Committee key contact for events
• Liaise with event organizer prior to an event to understand technical requirements for the stage
• Liaise with the driver prior to the event to ensure coordination of site arrival times, set up times, event start times and event finish times as well as any logistical details concerning the event and the stages
• Support set-up and tear-down the stage at event sites
• Set-up and dismantle audio equipment on the stage
• Ensure proper storage of all audio equipment after the event
• Operate all Stampede audio equipment on the stage which includes but is not limited to: Mixer, Amplifiers, Microphones, DI’s, Speakers and Monitors, Cables/connectors, IPOD’s, etc.
• Provide quality audio enhancement of live performances on the stage
• Ensure proper use of all audio equipment on the stage
• Assist with cleaning the stages as required
• Assist with minor maintenance on the stage units
• Ensure all stage audio equipment is onboard and fully operational before and after an event or notify appropriate people if otherwise
• Ensure the safety and security of the trailer stage units at all times
• Help ensure the safety of people on and around the stage at all times
Time Commitment:
• Year-round availability with some exceptions
• Ability to participate in at least five events during the Stampede festival as well as other events pre/post Stampede as needed
• Participate in at least 60% of Promotion Committee and Community Stage meetings. • Participate in Community Stage training and spring preparations.
Qualifications:
• Must be 18 years or older
• Experience in AV would be a plus (audio, video, lighting)
• Experience in stage management would be a plus
• Basic computer usage skills (use of mouse, keyboard, monitor)
• Willing to be trained to meet standards
• Physically able to handle equipment set up, operation and take-down
• Able to hear and see stage performers to set up and make adjustments
• Enjoy working in a team environment, friendly, flexible in a dynamic environment, a can-do attitude.
